rain gravity heat cold
superkül is delighted to announce the launch of its first book, rain gravity heat cold. The 160-page limited-edition volume illustrates the philosophical and ideological design approach that defines the practice and its role in the dynamic and evolving creative global landscape. It highlights projects realized over a decade of work, and reflects superkül’s organization of matter, energy and space while presenting a diversity of environments that are simultaneously inspired by and inspiring through design.
In its pages, readers will find a foreword by noted author and architecture critic, Kiel Moe, Associate Professor of Architecture & Energy, Department of Architecture at Harvard University; an interview with the firm’s principals by Eric Beck Rubin, noted Canadian architecture critic and author; photography from some of Canada’s top architectural photographers; studies of site and form; and a special credits section honouring the collaborations that make the firm’s work possible—highlighting clients, consultants, colleagues and friends.
The design of rain gravity heat cold is a deeply personal, deliberately intuitive experience. The considered manner of layout and production by Blok Design is reflective of superkül’s design philosophy and process. The title, the exploratory nature of the format, the tactile contrast of transitions in paper, the soft sheen of the silver metallic finishes and the variety of printing techniques—all mirror the subtle shifts in materiality, opacity, translucency and light that characterize the firm’s work.
rain gravity heat cold can be purchased in Canada from Inform Interiors, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, University of Toronto Bookstore, Easy Tiger Goods and Swipe, as well as from amazon.ca. Internationally, it is available online through Idea Books and amazon.com.
